Sierra wins the Cabrillo Classic
At the Cabrillo Classic, the host Seahawks won on Sunday, defeating Butte in a close one 74-69:
In the championship contest, scrappy Sierra College bested De Anza College 82-72.
Sierra College
Drew Brandon 4 13-15 22
Jordan Ngatai 7 7-8 21
DeAnza College
Nolan Williams 11 1-3 27
Abu (St. Francis High) Tratter 6 6-8 18
Dawson (Castro Valley High) Johnson 3 8-13 14
"...The win improved Cabrillo's record to 5-3 on the year and dropped Butte's record to 4-4 on the season. Cabrillo's 74 points tonight is a single game high for the season. The Seahawks were able to function much better and looked much more in sync offensively today. As a result, the Seahawks took a 38-32 lead in at the half.
The Seahawks extended their lead in the second to as much as 14 in the second and rode that lead for much of the second until Butte made a final run at the Seahawks that eventually fell short as Cabrillo shot well from the line to close out the game.
Colin Gruber led all scorers with 32 points. Phoenix Bills added 13 points and Da Karai White 11 points..."

The following is about a prep player in Arizona but who he is and where he is from is not the story. It's all about recruit-ability.
Without going into much in the way of concrete details, the writer cover the elephant-in-the-living-room subject of college coaches weighing concerns about siging a kid who might turn out very good, might be a problem, or both.
Great players, or those with NBA potential, have a stronger allure. Coaches are more willing to take a chance if the payoff might be substantial. For talents below that level, it's get much iffier.
Anyway, head here and take a read. This has applicability throughout the country.
