Junior forward Stephen Lumpkins has been named Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week for the first time this season, conference officials announced Monday.
Lumpkins helped American University notch a pair of key conference victories last week over Army and Holy Cross. In Wednesday’s 65-62 win in Bender Arena, he recorded 16 points, nine rebounds and a season-high three blocks against the Black Knights. The junior built on his strong performance with another great effort on Saturday, tallying his fifth double-double of the season in a 60-57 win at Holy Cross. Lumpkins scored 20 points for the third time this season, converting 9 of 12 field goals and a pair of free throws. He also recorded another block and pulled down 10 boards, including four offensive rebounds that led to second chances for American.
The California native also became the 27th Eagle in program history to reach 500 career rebounds on Saturday. He now has 507 total boards, which places him six behind Jim Shickora ’64 and Daryl Holmes ’90 for 25th place all-time.
For the week, Lumpkins averaged 18.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 2.0 bpg while shooting 71.4 percent from the floor. He currently leads the Patriot League with 8.0 boards per game and also ranks 10th in the conference in scoring (12.8 ppg). This is the second Player of the Week award of Lumpkins’ career.
