* Cabrillo College 87 - Modesto Junior College 51 boxscore

From the Cabrillo College Basketball site:
A great first half performance helped Cabrillo gain some momentum as they head into league play Wednesday night vs Hartnell. Cody Love got his first start of the year and scored five quick points and Cabrillo was off and running on the road vs Modesto Junior college on Saturday night. Cabrillo would finish the first half strong, take a 48-28 lead into the break and never looked back.

The 2nd half saw much of the same as Coach Marcopulos was able to get everyone into the action, Cabrillo pushed the lead to as much as 36 before the final horn sounded with a score of 87-51 and Cabrillo finished its pre-season schedule with a 9-6 record. Warren Jackson led Cabrillo with 23 points, Allen Wilcher, AJ Wright and David Abittan each had 15 points to pace Cabrillo.
From the Modesto Bee:
The Cabrillo College men’s basketball team camped in its zone defense Saturday and dared Modesto Junior College to shoot them out of it.

The Pirates couldn’t.

That’s why Cabrillo (9-6), ranked ninth in Northern California, returned to Aptos with an 87-51 non-league victory at MJC Gym. The Pirates (7-8) hoped for a better tuneup for their Big 8 Conference opener Tuesday night at home against Santa Rosa.

All Modesto could manage, however, was seven made triples in 33 attempts. It wasn’t enough to stay close.

“They did what they wanted against us. We couldn’t guard anybody and got out-hustled,” coach Paul Brogan said. “We may see a lot of zones in league if we shoot like tonight.”

* Fresno City College 64 - Saddleback College 54

From Anthony Galaviz/Fresno Bee:
A convincing win looked likely Saturday afternoon for the Fresno City College men's basketball team.

The Rams led by as many as 16 points early in the second half, only to see state ninth-ranked Saddleback make a furious rally to get within two.

But the Rams are ranked second among California JC teams for a reason. A 3-point play by Chris Ashanti increased the lead to 51-44 with 4:39 left and Fresno City won the nonconference game 64-54.

"Have to give (Saddleback) a lot of credit," said coach Ed Madec, whose team is now 17-1. "They're obviously a perennial powerhouse and always have been. We expected them to make a run. It was a great team effort with great contributions from guys off the bench." The Rams held Saddleback (14-3) to a season-low 19 first-half points.
