The number #1 team in the state, San Francisco City, did not make it to the state tournament. Everyone in the know, including the D-1 coaches, agrees that SFC had by far the most talented JUCO team in the state. Most people expected them run through state tournament with one hand tied behind their back but not so. I believe that there are two things will always hamper SFC in living up to their talent. There just is not enough talented teams in NoCal to challenge them consistently. Secondly, San Francisco recruits players internationally and nationally that often only play one year at SFC and the coaching staff has issues at times of integrating all this talent into a team. Terrible problem to have isn’t it? LOL.
The Fresno City defeat was not as big as a shock. Fresno City wins so many of their games by playing the best “3 and Dunk” style of basketball with a bunch of players that play so hard. Also like SFC, their competition in the North especially in their conference is often weak and that does not force their team to improve all season long.
