Santa Rosa wins, Chabot falls

Kai Drewry's basket with just under four seconds remaining led Santa Rosa Junior College to a 49-47 victory over Chaffey College in the state semifinals today. Freshman backcourter Matthew Hayes paced the Bear Cubs with 20 points (4-8 from beyond the arc). Chaffey shot just 30% and was credited with just two assists on 17 baskets. 26 of SRJC's 43 shot attempts were treys. Coach Craig McMillan's guys led 26-16 after the initial 20 minutes.

Redwood High grad Kai Drewry is on the men's basketball team at Santa Rosa Junior College which is headed to its first state final four.

Drewry has averaged 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 30 contests this year for SRJC (22-8), which has won 11 games in a row. SRJC is the north's top seed and will face the south's No. 2 seed Chaffey on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Cerritos College.

Chabot College also faced off with San Bernardino Valley College today and the Gladiators were trailing by just three very late but fell 78-68. Cortez Barrett led with both 17 points and eight boards for Coach Denny Aye
