Two Keelhaulers honored for academics

From Cal Maritime athletics:
After finishing two stellar careers and leading the program to its third consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament, Cal Maritime seniors Jaquai Wiley and Erik Hanson were named NAIA Academic All Americans when the 2013-14 Daktronics-NAIA DII Men's Basketball Scholar-Athletes were announced today.

Wiley, a 6 foot point guard, will graduate in April with a degree in International Business and Logistics.  He was named the California Pacific Conference's Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and in his four year career Cal Maritime averaged 24 wins per season including setting the school record for wins in three consecutive years.

Hanson, a 6 foot 6 inch forward, will graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (Licensed Track).  He was named First Team All-Conference playing his best in big games as he scored he led the Keelhaulers with 17 points at the national tournament. Erik was part of the two record setting teams in his two year career after transferring from Santa Rosa Junior College.

Head Coach Bryan Rooney commented on the honors, "Jaquai and Erik are the best examples that I have ever been around of a true student-athlete.  Both are tremendous players, committed students and even better people.  I have been privileged to work with them and their examples will have a lasting impact on our program."

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
