David Pick notes: "Maccabi Haifa waive Mexican hulk Hector Hernandez. Also cut, guard Brody Angley."
The former Enterprise High and Santa Clara guard has enjoyed quite the interesting basketball career. He'll be back playing professionally somewhere.
From back when Angley signed to play in Israel:
"Maccabi Bazan Haifa, the 2013-14 Israeli Basketball Super League runner-up, announced today they have signed point guard Brody Angley to a two-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Angley, 28, won back-to-back championships in Mexico’s top division in 2013-14 and 2012-13 with two different teams. Last season for Halcones Rojos de Veracruz, Angley guided his team to the title and averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 21.4 minutes while shooting 36.3 percent from beyond the arc and a league-best 98 percent (50-of-51) from the free throw line.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound point guard played alongside Maccabi Haifa teammates Ike Ofoegbu and Rene Rougeau for Toros de Nuevo Laredo’s championship season in 2012-13, appearing in 53 games while posting averages of 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 steals in 24.7 minutes per game.
Over the past five seasons in Switzerland, Poland, and Mexico, Angley has had an impressive track record, reaching the League Finals four times, including winning three league titles (2 in Mexico and 1 in Switzerland for the Ligano Tigers), a Switzerland league cup for Lugano in 2011, and a Liga de las Americas crown for Mexicos’ Pioneros de Quintana Roo in 2012.
“Brody Angley is a natural born winner and we’re thrilled to have him join Maccabi Bazan Haifa,” said Maccabi Bazan Haifa team owner Jeff Rosen. “It’s not a coincidence that wherever he plays, his teams win games.”
“Brody is a tough and experienced team player, who will give our team maturity and leadership,” said Maccabi Bazan Haifa head coach Rami Hadar.
A native of Spokane, Washington, Angley holds both Mexican and American citizenship, playing for the Mexican national team in 2013 and 2011. He played collegiately at NCAA Division I Santa Clara University from 2004-08, averaging 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 35.2 minutes per game during his senior season."
