Merritt College hosted and bested Yuba College on Thursday 69-57. 6-foot-5 freshman Lamont (St. Joseph-Notre Dame) Banks led in scoring again with 16 points and three other Thunderbirds, Zach Christian, Andrew (Berkeley High) Pierson and Lewis (Chavez High) Hayes, each scored 10.
The Appeal-Democrat: "The Yuba College men's basketball team dropped a Bay Valley Conference game to Merritt on Thursday night in Oakland, and may have lost even more.
Starting point guard and University of Utah signee Jojo Zamora dislocated his right ankle six minutes into the 49ers' 69-57 loss to the Thunderbirds and Yuba coach Doug Cornelius fears his sophomore standout may be done for the season.
"It's kind of a somber deal," Cornelius said. "It took the air out of the team."
Vasilije Saraba led Yuba with a team-high 19 points, Erik Scheive added nine and Jihad Woods finished with eight.
The 49ers (8-11 overall, 1-3 BVC) will look to snap their three-game losing streak when they host Los Medanos on Saturday at 1 p.m."
