The new rules

Coach Bob Walsh on Matt Norlander's article about the new rules in basketball -- "I don’t feel like the games are being called any differently than they have been in the past, which is the concern of Dan Gavitt with the NCAA.  There are actually less fouls being called per possession than there have been in past years.  More total fouls being called is due to more possessions with the shorter shot clock.

I see the occasional “new rules” hand-check being called on the ball-handler, but as the game goes on most of that stuff is still being let go, which can lead to some inconsistency.  It’s hard for officials, because they don’t want to be out there calling fouls on every possession.  As far as calling the fouls to clean up the game, it doesn’t seem to be happening."
