Cabrillo College wins another

An Aaron Short tip-in with :09 to go on the clock was just enough for the Seahawks to upend a very stubborn Napa Valley College squad 55-53. The win improved Cabrillo's record to 7-1 on the year and dropped NVC to 2-7.

The Seahawks controlled the game in the first half by crashing the offensive boards and, as a result, led 33-25 at the hal.

In the second 20 minutes, Cabrillo extended the lead to 10 several times but could not put NVC away.

NVC then took a five-point lead with 3:23 to play.

Consecutive stops at the defensive end and critical baskets by Tyler Velasquez, Aaron Short and Thomas Pierce tied the score at 53 with 22.4 seconds to go.

Cabrillo called timeout and ran the clock to either win the game at the buzzer or go into OT. Tyler Velasquez got a good look at a 12 foot jumper and missed but Aaron Short made a spectacular acrobatic tip-in for the lead with :09 to go.

Napa called TO and their attempt failed as time expired.

Tyler Velasquez led the Seahawks in scoring with 17 points and Frank Rogers added 11.
