To nobody's surprise, Coach Ben Howland has parted ways with Reeves Nelson -- Diane Pucin reports in an extremely forthright article.
Howland had to make this move or he would have lost his standing in the worlds of college basketball and recruiting, plus maybe his current team.
Nobody should be garnering any joy at this latest move, nor should any 'I told you so' proclamations be bandied about. Neither reactions adds anything positive to the situation.
Instead, it's a time of sadness in that a wonderful occupational and educational situation has been fumbled away.
But more importantly, it is an opportunity for Nelson to get right with his life. Until that is in order, basketball serves no purpose.
