Cabrillo sneaks by MPC 64-58Here's a game report from David Greenberger/Santa Cruz Sentinel.
The Cabrillo College Seahawks (14-6, 5-0) won tonight but it was not easy as Monterey Peninsula College (6-13, 1-3) pushed the Seahawks to the end. The Seahawks jumped out to an early lead 10-2 and then 15-6. MPC quickly went to work and cut into the lead and tied the score at 19 with 6:27 to go in the first half. The score went back and forth as no team enjoyed more than a three point lead. Cabrillo lead at the half 38-35.
The second half was much like the first as the Seahawks jumped on MPC quickly and went up 11 in the half. MPC refused to go away as they kept grinding away at the Seahawks. MPC was up 55-53 with 5:05 to go. Cabrillo went on a 6-0 run with a short bank shot by Colin Gruber and consecutive layups by Jake Harrell to put the Seahawks up 59-55 with 2:01 to go. MPC hit a big 3 pt. shot to cut the lead to 1 but the Seahawks made critical free throws down the stretch to hold off MPC 64-58.
Dalton Noble lead all scorers with 24 points on five three-point shots. Colin Gruber scored 20 points and Phoenix Bills chipped with 10.
