Anderson coming home

Michael Hunt/Milwaukee Sentinel  is reporting that Marquette's Juan Anderson is leaving the Golden Eagle basketball squad to get closer to home.

He had a puzzling sophomore season as we wrote this here on February 12:
Former Castro Valley High and Oakland Rebel talent Juan Anderson is in his second year at Marquette, which is currently a Big East member and coached by the much-lauded Buzz Williams.

This season, Anderson has started 19 of 23 games but is averaging just under 15 minutes an outing as well as 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 36% overall, while standing fourth on the team in blocked shots and fifth in steals.

10 Golden Eagle players are on the court for double digit minutes averages in 2012-13, with Anderson ranking eighth in playing time.

Against Georgetown on February 11, Anderson played 15 minutes. Versus DePaul two days earlier, he saw 11 minutes of action. In a February 6 matchup with South Florida it was 11 minutes, preceded by 10 minutes opposing Louisville on February 3. In late January, he earned 22 minutes against South Florida.

Anyway, you get the drift.

So Anderson starts, which generally means 25 or so minutes of court time will be coming your way each night, but doesn't play all that much after his opening up the game.
Paint Touches, a Marquette basketball blog, weighs in on Anderson's departure.

Might Coach Dave Wolcik, newly installed at San Jose State University, be more than interested? How about USF and St. Mary's? Santa Clara?

*** Answering a query here, the reason Cal wasn't listed is that Anderson wants playing time above all else. He could earn such in Berkeley but there is also a stronger likelihood he would be recruited over at Cal than the other possible options. But, and this is important to stress, this is pure speculation on my part so don't count Mike Montgomery out.

  1. Any reason you omit Cal as a possible destination? They certainly wanted him out of high school.

  2. What are the schools courting him? Any information? I know that Weber State has been able to steal a bunch of Bay Area kids lately. Does the pipeline stay in place and the Wildcats steal another Bay Area kid?
