If coaches want to make sitting out a year upon transferring mandatory for players, then why shouldn't a head or assistant coach have to sideline himself for a year when moving to a new job?
Of course, that latter part isn't do-able but the entire situation remains a double standard.
Plus, what about allowing players to transfer without hindrance if their head coach moves to a different pschool? Isn't that only fair?
Bottomline, there's too much institutional power right now and it all favors those in charge.
And just what constitutes a transfer crisis? It's hard to see a "condition of instability or danger" here. Let's re-label it and say college basketball is exemplifying individual freedom on the march.
Andy Katz writes about all this.
