Jones named AoW

Talolo Limu-Jones of Davis High is the Modesto Bee's Boys Athlete of the Week:

"You may recognize Davis High School’s Talolo Limu-Jones as a football player for the Spartans. But he can play a little basketball, too.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound senior scored 37 points in the championship game of the Oakdale Rotary Boys Basketball Tournament, leading Davis to a 62-52 win over Turlock’s Pitman High.

Limu-Jones thinks the compressed tournament schedule will help his team as it gets ready for the rigors of Modesto Metro Conference play.

“Playing against different teams gives us a chance to run different sets,” said Limu-Jones. “Whether we come out against a man or a zone (defense), it’s a chance to improve. And we really improved everywhere on the court. And that’s our main focus, just improving each game.”

When it comes to the MMC race, Limu-Jones is a realist. He understands that Modesto Christian is a virtual lock to repeat as league champion, and that talented Beyer should be right behind the Crusaders.

“I think we can get that third spot,” said Limu-Jones. “MC and Beyer are the picks going in, and next would be Davis and Johansen...”
