Host Mendocino College got by Yuba College 77-74 on Wednesday. Tyrell Jones again led the Eagles in scoring, this time with 28 points. Teammate Paul (Ukiah High) Steliga earned a double-double via 18 points and 10 assists and he also grabbed seven rebounds.
The Appeal-Democrat: "Just when the season couldn't get any tougher for the Yuba College men's basketball team, a midweek road trip to Ukiah proved to be another nightmare.
Yuba had a lead late in the second half, but was unable to hold on as Mendocino made a late run to steal a 77-74 Bay Valley Conference win over the 49ers on Wednesday.
Yuba coach Doug Cornelius said the 49ers (9-12 overall, 2-4 BVC) led by 11 points with less than four minutes left before the Golden Eagles made a run backed by a barrage of 3 pointers that helped them take a one-point lead with under a minute to play. Mendocino made two free throws in the final minute to push the lead to three points in the final moments...
...Throughout most of the game, Yuba took advantage by going inside with the trio of Erik Scheive, Jihad Woods and James Hadnot to build up an early lead...
