SANTA ROSA 92, MJC 74 — The Pirates netted 15 triples but, outmatched near the basket, were overpowered by the No. 2-ranked Bear Cubs.
Guard Mike Hill accounted for five of the 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for Modesto (9-9, 1-4). Santa Rosa (17-4, 5-0), winner of nine straight, limited forward Brenden Evans to only six points, however, and feasted on 18 of 27 free throws. "They took away everything from us inside," MJC coach Paul Brogan said. "We had no choice but to shoot from outside."
Point guard Alex Rivera picked up 12 points for the Pirates and Tashawn Mabry hit for 10.
