Vit D at the UC Irvine message board offers his analysis on the production of various Anteater players this season and here are the northern California guys:
Will Davis- (A-) The fact that he did not make it on the All Big West
Honorable Mention team at least is an indictment on the way that team is
decided. He changes the game on defense, and was able to provide
significantly more on offense than he did last year. Still a little
undersized, and he can get pushed around a bit down low, but he was
probably our best player at the end of the year, and the sky is the
limit. With a full season of weight training and tutelage from Russell
Turner, he should be even better next year. Quite simply, the most
exciting UCI big man since I have been following the team, and there is
substance beneath the flash.
Travis Souza- (B) If John Ryan was one of the unsung heroes of the end
of the year, Travis Souza was the other. I don't think he is a
particularly well rounded player, but he does have one strength and that
is outside shooting, which is just what we needed at the end of the
year. Our most prolific outside shooters were all fairly inconsistent,
and when we needed to put someone in to bury an open jumper, he was the
guy. Near the end of the year, he even managed to snare a few rebounds
and play some decent defense off and on.
Chris McNealy- (C-) A slight disappointment. Part of the problem is
that he is so inconsistent. I don't know if it is because of his
disposition, his strange shooting style, or what, but he is very up and
down. There were times when he was the best player on the team, and
others where he was a liability. We have been waiting for him to make
the next step for some time, but I am starting to think that he is what
he is. I want more from him, and I think he can provide more, but I am
not sure that we are going to get it. This is not to say it was a bad
year, just a slight disappointment.
