Thursday's names at the NorCal JUCO Summer Jamboree

The Skyline College campus sure has a microclimate of its own. While the rest of the Bay Area was warm and comfortable, try bigtime wind, overcast and temperatures hovering in the 50s. Wow. Las Vegas in late July is looking mighty fine.

Anyway, some early and late games were missed -- seven hours was the maximum this body could take but some very interesting names popped up alongside equally alluring performances. The names will be covered in this post:

* Jamil (Oakland High) Brown and Gemeny (St. Joseph Notre Dame) Givens are members of the City College of San Francisco team but the BIG NAME to announce isn't a Bay Area one: Sami Elerky, a 7-footer out of Denmark who committed to Cal in May, 2012 but couldn't gain eligibility. Elerky possesses tremendous hoops potential and is already on his way to formalizing that plus he is quick and runs very well. The Rams have re-loaded.

* Josh Fox's name isn't on the CCSF roster but we'll keep checking on that one.

* 6-foot-9 Matt Simpkins is playing for Chabot College this season. As best as could be located, he last was with Memphis for part of the 2008-2009 season. At some point afterwards, he was enrolled for classes at Diablo Valley College and Nevada was showing interest but nothing materialized.

* Another blast from the past, 6-foot-8 Eugene Crockett, is with Coach Andrew Jones and Sacramento City this season. It looks like he was last with Cosumnes River College back in 2006.

* Speaking of Chabot, former Skyline High backcourter Paris Davis is now a member of the Gladiators. Davis was at Fresno City College last year.

* Frontcourter Rodrigo Puliceno, a 2011 class member out of Burlingame High, is back in school and with CaƱada. New Head Coach Mike Reynoso was on the sidelines for the Colts.

* Dejon Burdeaux, out of San Leandro High, is a freshman guard at Fresno City College.

* Wayne Englestad, who spent a season at at a prep school after graduating from Heritage High, is on the Los Medanos College squad.

* Out of DI state champion Pleasant Grove High in Elk Grove, guard Matt Hayes is playing for Santa Rosa Junior College.

* Newark Memorial High grad JoJo Zamora is a Yuba College 49er as is Bella Vista High point Ahmad Smith. Another Bella Vista High alumnus, K.J. Logue, was at Dominican University this past season but is now playing for Coach Doug Cornelius.

  1. Matt Hayes played for California D1 State Champion Pleasant Grove out of Elk Grove, CA You did a article on him last year after you got confused with the Matt Hayes from the Yuba City Honkers.

There is a Pleasant Grove from Utah.

    Thanks
