It was only an intra-squad scrimmage but still:
Eight players scored in double digits as the Utah State men's basketball team competed in a closed intrasquad scrimmage at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday morning. Head coach Stew Morrill put the team through four, 10-minute sessions, mixing up the roster and shuffling players among the blue and white squads throughout the workout.
Junior transfer Chris Smith led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point territory. Smith, a transfer from Yuba College (Ariz.), also led the Aggies from the free throw line, knocking down 5-of-6 and dished out a team-high five assists.
He was followed by transfer Lew Evans with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Evans will redshirt the 2014-15 season after transferring from Tulsa as per NCAA rules. USU returners Jalen Moore and JoJo McGlaston were next with 14 and 12 points, respectively, with McGlaston also recording a team-best four steals.
Junior transfer Darius Perkins joined returning redshirt David Collette with 11 points and senior Sean Harris and freshman Elston Jones each chipped in 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers. Harris also led the team with four offensive rebounds.
