Tim Grover on why intangibles count more

Tim S. Grover writes about "There’s no shortage of “great athletes” who rack up impressive [test] scores and then turn out to be total busts. Why? Because raw athletic ability is a terrible predictor of how an athlete will perform when it counts..."

And, "You know what you don’t see? The  guy who does his job so thoroughly and intensely that you don’t even notice him coming; he just delivers the results..."

He concludes, "The ultimate measure of a competitor is determined by what you can’t measure—the intangibles. Anyone can measure height, weight, and speed, but you can’t measure intellect, commitment, persistence, or the instinctive ability to convert talent into results. Success depends on the strength of only one muscle: the one that beats in your chest."
