Delgado & Hoyt honored

In a postseason poll, the California Pacific Conference coaches voted Cal Maritime's Roman Delgado as the conference Player of the Year. The senior guard guided the Keelhaulers to the regular season crown with a 9-3 record, 20-9 overall, establishing himself as a key component at both ends of the court by providing steady offensive production and solid defense.

A teammate of Delgado's, Kameron Hoyt, demonstrated even more tenacity in holding down opposing team's top scorers and, as a result, garnered the Cal Pac's Defender of the Year honor.

The Cal Pac coaches voted sharpshooter Franky Teran of Antelope Valley as the Newcomer of the Year. The junior guard led the NAIA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage, knocking down an impressive 71-of-139 (51%).

In a conference rich in promising freshman talent, UC Merced's Aaron Laflin stood out among a stellar list of nominees to earn Freshman of the Year distinction. Each team had at least one freshman that demonstrated he was ready to make an immediate impact on the Cal Pac, and the coaches' list of nominees for the award looked more like a list of All-Cal Pac First Teamers in the very near future. Laflin led a resurgent Bobcat squad in both scoring and rebounding, quickly becoming the focal point of opposing defenses.

After guiding CMA to its fourth conference title in the last seven years, Head Coach Bryan Rooney was voted the Coach of the Year.

With many new faces, there were a limited number of players who repeated with All-Conference honors.  Zach Davis of Cal Maritime and Andre Marquez of La Sierra were only players named to the First Team for a second year in a row, and Hoyt, a First Teamer last winter, was voted to the Second Team this year.  For the second year in a row, Kevin Batise earned Honorable Mention.
