Let's look at the numbers of Brett Reed, Akil Douglas and DeOndre Otis this season. Reed was named the Most Valuable Player in the Coast Conference South with Douglas and Otis being First Team honorees with Cabrillo and SJCC finishing in a tie for first place and Monterey one game behind:
* Brett Reed - Cabrillo College

Look at the Conference Numbers Kevin.. It's not about what was done in the pre-season. Reed averaged 16pts 12rbs (no.1 in the conference) n 4asts in conference play with 9 double doubles which also led the conference. Numbers don't always tell the story but you obviously aren't a coach in the conference and we're not involved in the selection process. Way to knock a freshman for leading his team to a 10-2 record and a conference title without 1 returning player from the year before..
ReplyDeleteCheck your numbers again Kevin, we know you are already biased but a Confernce MVP is earned for what you do IN conference.. Reed averaged 16pts 12rbs n 4asts IN conference.. Led the conference in rebounding AND double doubles by a wide margin.. While leading a team of freshman to a Confernce title when predicted to finish 4th.. Way to knock a kid for his accomplishments.. If the coaches in the Confernce vote him, who are you to question them? Not knowledgable enough to check your stats or facts?
ReplyDeleteIt appears someone woke up on the sensitive side of the bed this morning. Nobody is being knocked here at all but thank you for taking the time to comment.
ReplyDeleteSo you won't admit you made an error in the numbers you posted? Or admit that a Confernce MVP is recognized for his work IN the conference?
DeleteWay to keep it classy Kevin. I didn't see this as a knock at all, simply an observation. Besides, I do believe you noted that numbers don't tell the whole story.
ReplyDeleteYour comment "Way to knock a freshman for leading his team to a 10-2 record and a conference title without 1 returning player from the year before" is stating I am knocking Reed, is it not?
ReplyDeleteAs for judging on just league play or overall, an argument can be made for both since conference and out of conference play are considered for entry and placement into the playoffs. The Mountain West Conference beat reporters are debating this at the moment while preparing their respective all league teams.
"Numbers don't tell the whole story but..." Insinuating that these numbers don't stack up.. A Confernce MVP is voted on by the Conference Coaches for what a player does in Conference. I am sorry that you don't agree with that but that's how it goes. So a kid who is hurt the whole pre-season shouldn't get an All Confernce Award cuz he missed the pre-season but played well in conference? How does that make sense, tell me what you think of his numbers in Conference compared to the other 2 kids (who are both REALLY good players). His overall numbers are better, and the coaches in the conference felt the same way. That's why there all All American Teams AND All Conference Teams.
DeleteNice season by Otis Looked like his game has improved a lot and his body look stronger and it look like he lead his team in every category that's pretty good for pg
