Monday: Azuza Pacific 96, Dominican 94

Marin Independent Journal: "The Dominican University men’s basketball team is on the outside looking in for a berth in the PacWest tournament after Monday’s 96-94 double-overtime loss against Azusa Pacific.

The Penguins (12-12, 8-9) went 0-3 on its Southern California roadtrip by a combined six points. Dominican trails Point Loma (8-8 in conference) for the sixth and final playoff spot for the conference tournament in March. The Penguins host Academy of Art and Dixie State and close out the regular season at Fresno Pacific on Feb. 27.

Azusa Pacific (18-6, 12-4), on pace to earn the top seed with Concordia ineligible for the tournament, closed out Monday’s win with Petar Kutlesic’s three-point play on a putback in the final seconds.

Dominican led by 12 at intermission and 14 in the second half, but the Cougars stormed back to tie the game with 15 seconds left at 71-71.

In the second overtime, Ryo Tawatari (13 points) hit a free throw with two seconds left to send the game into a second overtime.

Josh Ramirez led six Penguins in double figures with a game-high 22 points. Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten had 14 points, Reverend Maduakor finished with 12 points and Matt Hayes and Seth Turner (team-high 10 rebounds) scored 11 apiece..."
