"When it comes to high school debuts, they don't get too much better than the one by Mount Shasta freshman Kaden Riccomini.
Although the Bears lost their season opener to Lassen 97-86 on Dec. 1, Riccomini, a 6-foot point guard, tallied 34 points. Not bad for a freshman playing his first high school basketball game.
Now 19 games later as of Monday, Riccomini is averaging 17.6 points per game and has scored 352 points on the season. That total puts him within striking distance of the Northern Section record for points in a season by a freshman.
Matt Bryant of Westwood set the mark of 509 points in 1994 en route to a four-year career that saw him become the section's all-time leading scorer with 2,655 points. No other player in section history is within 300 points of Bryant..."
