Shasta 92, Redwoods 77

Danny Penza/Times-Standard game reports: "Shasta sophomore guard Ashton Pomrehn, a McKinleyville High School grad, scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Knights over the Corsairs in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Redwoods — which played the game without head coach Justin Mora after he was ejected in this past Saturday’s loss to Butte College — tried to rally late, but Shasta’s early-game flurry from long distance proved to be too much to overcome.

The Knights had nine first-half 3-pointers as they built a 48-34 lead heading into the halftime break.

Shasta finished the game with 13 made treys, with Pomrehn — who was one of five Knights to hit double figures — knocking down four of those.

Redwoods sophomore forward DeAndre Winston scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. Another sophomore honored before the game, Fortuna native Justin Claus, finished with 18 points and knocked down six of Redwoods’ 12 3-pointers Wednesday night.

CR sophomore forward Loris Hervey had 11 points, while freshman forward Will Ingersoll added 12.

The Corsairs, who dropped two out of their last three regular-season games, finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 13-13 overall record and went 4-6 in GVC play, good for fourth place before Feather River, Butte and Shasta.

Record Searchlight: "Shasta College's men's basketball team ended the regular season with a three-game winning streak with a 92-77 road win over College of the Redwoods on Wednesday.

The Knights made seven 3-pointers early in the first half to build a 23-15 lead over the Corsairs and led by 14 at halftime.

Shasta sophomore Ashton Pomrehn turned in a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Kendall Dewees scored 17 points. Darnell Waters had 10 assists and seven steals as the Knights avenged its nine-point loss to the Corsairs from the first wave of Golden Valley Conference play.

The Knights finished third in the GVC with a 6-4 record and 15-12 overall."
