Meet the 2013 Cal Elite

Cal Elite is back again and ready for more spring and summer battling. Headed by Ponderosa High Coach Troy Selvey, this is the roster of the CE top team (descriptions provided by Gerry Freitas based on observations at the 2013 Nor Cal Spring Showcase):

"Tough combo guard who is a good shooter from 3, solid ball handler"

* Ian Brummell, 6-foot-1, Franklin High, 2013

"Football strong body, plays very hard and battles every play, good shooter from 15'-18", will post up and dribble operate, active on the offensive glass"

* Trevor Hammitt, 6-foot-3, Ponderosa High, 2013

"Solid and tough combo guard, plays hard, strong straight line driver, good passer, good shooter with 3 point range, can pull up in the half court"

* Leonard Hazewood, 6-foot-5, Antelope High, 2013

* Donald Mims, 6-foot-10, Center High, 2013

"Very long and lanky, very active on both ends, good motor, really tries hard every play, good hands, somewhat raw but can finish a little with dunk or hook, runs ok, moves well without the ball, needs some strength"

"Active forward with long arms, ok athlete who attacks the offensive glass each play, good short driver, 15'-17' range, good vision and passer, decent rebounder"

* Matt Vanenberg, 6-foot-1, Christian Brothers High, 2014

"Fast, active combo guard who can really pass, good handle in transition and can push the tempo, good shooter with 3 point range, solid defender"

Here's some background on Selvey:

"Troy played professionally in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for the Los Piasas and London, England for the Coventry Crusaders/London Leopards (where he coached a varsity boys team to a State Championship finishing 18-1. He has also run numerous camps and clinics in the surround areas of London) and in TG Mures, Romania for the Mures Tigers.  Troy also coached in most of the camps in the Sacramento area such as King’s Camp, Chris Webber’s Camp, Bobby Jackson’s Camp, Mike Bibby’s Camp, Monarchs Camp as well as Vlade and Peja’s Camp."
