5-foot-11 El Camino High backcourter Maurice Hale is heading to William Penn University on a basketball scholarship.
Why the choice?
"William Penn was the school that showed me the most interest and I feel I fit right in," Hale said.
He added, "I'm excited for our team's future because we have a lot talent still there along with some new players coming in."
Hale offered, "I credit all of my AAU coaches and high school coach for everything that they have taught me about the game."
He'll be attending a summer workouts there next month and then be back in August to begin the new school year.
Recalling his best moment on the court, Hale offered, "It was in our league opener when we faced Rio Americano. We forced the game into double overtime and we're down by one with about ten seconds left. I drove in and put up a floater for the game and the floater was good. I was just happy we got the win and it was good to see how much the game meant to my team and my school."
Concluding, he said,"I want to thank my parents for always supporting me and bringing me up well. It feels good to know where I'm going and I'm going to do whatever it takes to keep William Penn a winning program."
He's coming from a successful program as El Camino, coached by Tony Phulps, finished 18-11 overall, 6-4 in the Capital League this season.
Hale is looking to major in business.
Situated in Oskaloosa, Iowa, William Penn is a member of the Midwest Classic Conference and finished 12-0 in league play, 34-2 overall. The Statesman reached the NAIA DII championship game this past season but lost.
