Cal State Stanislaus turned back Chico State yesterday 82-70 to win the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament championship. The Warriors led 38-24 after the initial 20 minutes and shot 61% overall (28-46), 6-6 from beyond the arc and 20-28 at the charity stripe. The Wildcats went 28-64, 8-16 and 6-9 respectively.
Chris Read led the victors with 20 points, followed by Sam Marcus' 19, 18 from Marcus Bell and 12 plus 14 rebounds courtesy of Rob Walters.
Chico State was paced by 17 from Rashad Parker, 16 via Amir Carraway and Jordan Semple's 11. Semple grabbed a team best eight boards.
CSS won the boards 40-21 but committed 17 turnovers to Chico's seven.
