"Yuba routed by Feather River at home"

The Appeal-Democrat:

"Doug Cornelius has been the head men's basketball coach at Yuba College since the 200102 season.

He has seen his program go through many ups and downs over the years, but Wednesday night's game had him shaking his head like never before.

The 49ers were trounced 92-69 by Feather River in Linda in a game Cornelius called, "the most embarrassing performance" he's seen since he took over at Yuba.

"I don't know how else to explain it," Cornelius said. "I've never had a team just quit like that. It's very embarrassing for (associate head coach Ken) Griffin and myself."

Not that Feather River (80) is some slouch. The Golden Eagles are the No. 2ranked team in Northern California in the most recent California Community Colleges Men's Basketball Coaches Association poll. Feather River is also ranked No. 4 in the state.

A big reason for that has been the play of Derrick Randolph, who scored 43 points against the 49ers with 11 3 point baskets. In comparison, Yuba made five 3 pointers — as a team. Yuba shot 5 for 35 from behind the arc and added an abysmal night at the free throw line with a 10 for 22 clip.

"You're not going to win many games playing like that," Cornelius said. "(Randolph) did whatever he wanted to do against us. He was amazing."

Manny Malou had doubledouble for the 49ers with 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks, but that was about it in the highlight department for the 49ers.
The schedule doesn't get any easier. Yuba (25) has played the No.1 (City College of San Francisco) and No. 2 (Feather River) teams in Northern California already this year. Up next is a trip to Southern California to play in the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament against more elite competition.

"We're playing a ridiculous schedule right now," Cornelius said. "Hopefully we can get some confidence back in December."
