Monterey Herald: "Jessy Hurtado poured in 32 points, including the team’s last nine points as Alisal advanced into the second round of the Central Coast Section Division I boys basketball playoffs after a 53-48 win over Andrew Hill of San Jose.
Alisal (21-4), which has won 15 straight games, will face Sequoia of Redwood City on Thursday in the second around.
“Physically we struggled matching up with them,’’ Alisal coach Jose Gil said. “As far as heart, hustle and effort, we made up for the lack of height. Our seven freshmen grew up fast tonight. They got a taste of playoff basketball.”
Alisal, which held a nine-point halftime lead, watched the Falcons open the third quarter with a 10-0 run to take a one-point lead.
“Our kids got nervous,’’ said Gil, who guided Alisal to an undefeated Monterey Bay League Pacific Division season. “We had to regain our composure. Jessy hits some big baskets to get the momentum back. He put us on his back tonight.’’
