The Appeal-Democrat: "The Yuba College men's basketball team had an opportunity to move to .500 in Bay Valley Conference play but couldn't hold on to a late lead in a tough 68-66 loss to Solano on Wednesday night in Fairfield.
The 49ers led by eight points with 21⁄2 minutes remaining only to have three straight turnovers lead directly to Solano points.
Yuba still had one last shot to win it with 13 seconds left, but had a 3-pointer rim in and out before the Falcons came away with a steal on the rebound to ice the game.
"I give our kids credit. They fought and fought," said Yuba coach Doug Cornelius. "We were in control, but we just had turnovers at a crucial time and it cost us."
Vasilije Saraba scored a team-high 16 points for the 49ers, who were down to just five players at the end of the game after two of their starters fouled out.
Erik Scheive and Xavier Sims added nine points each.
With the loss, Yuba fell to 11-14 overall and 4-6 BVC play. However, the 49ers are due to pick up two forfeit wins after it was revealed in an investigation that the College of Marin paid for the tuition for one of its players, the Marin Independent Journal reported.
Marin could forfeit all of its games for the last three years when a final decision by the California Community College Athletic Association is made."
