Stivers goes football

John Devine reports: "Carmel three-sport standout John Stivers has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Harvard University, where he will continue his football career as a tight end.

Last season the 6-foot-5 Stivers caught 56 passes for 880 yards and seven touchdowns for the co-MTAL champion Padres, and spent time on the defensive side as a linebacker.

Called up for the postseason as a freshman four years ago, Stivers compiled 157 catches for 2,135 yards and 18 touchdowns at Carmel.

He’s also a four-year starter on the basketball team, earning MTAL Most Valuable Player honors twice, and will be a three-year starter on the Padres baseball team.
