Appeal-Democrat: "After adding two forfeit wins to its record earlier in the week, the Yuba College men's basketball team took to the court in Fairfield on Tuesday night and quickly dispatched Solano in the opening round of the Bay Valley Conference Tournament.
The 49ers stormed out to a 30-11 lead and coasted the rest of the way for an 8558 victory over the Falcons and will take on BVC champion Contra Costa today at 7 p.m. in San Pablo in the conference semifinals.
Contra Costa, ranked fifth in the state by the California Community Colleges Men's Basketball Coaches Association, was 11-1 in the BVC during the regular season with its only loss coming in a 90-86 setback to Yuba on Jan. 5 in Linda in the conference opener.
Jihad Woods continued his strong play by posting team highs with 18 points and 14 rebounds on Tuesday for the 49ers, who came out strong while avenging last week's 68-58 loss to Solano. "It was one of our best games of the year," said Yuba coach Doug Cornelius. "It was an extremely physical game. There was some bad blood from last week and the boys came out fired up."
Xavier Sims added 15 points, Erik Scheive finished with 14 and Kevin Daniels chipped in with 13 for the 49ers (15-12 overall, 6-5 BVC)."
