In thrilling fashion, the Warriors pulled off a mild upset when Sam Marcus hit a free throw with eight seconds left in overtime to provide the difference Cal Poly Pomona on Friday. The Warriors maintained sole possession of fourth place after the wild victory that saw Pomona tied it with a 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation and Stanislaus tie it with a 3-pointer with one second left in the first overtime.
Chris Read had 18 points, Marcus Bell 16 and Sam Marcus 15 for the Warriors, who improved to 17-8 overall, 13-8 in the CCAA. Pomona fell to 20-5, 18-3, a game behind conference leader San Bernardino State.
Stanislaus and Pomona already have qualified for the CCAA tournament.
With 12 seconds left in regulation, the Warriors took a 61-58 lead on a free throw by Rob Walters. However, Pomona’s Barry Bell hit a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
With five seconds left in the first overtime, Pomona’s Jordan Finn hit two free throws for a 68-65 lead. However, Stanislaus’ Tyler Barber hit a 3-pointer with one second left to extend the game into the second overtime.
