Looking at Cameron Oliver's decision

With some hesitancy because the background is known only by the parties involved but here goes:

From a Utah State fan site comes this on Cameron Oliver's decision not to attend Oregon State: "The word is that he believes he was "recruited over" by the 3 hot shot top 100 fellas..."  The post was generated because USU at one time was interested in Oliver.

However, this reasoning doesn't make sense.

Here's the deconstruction: as for the three hotshots, 6-foot-7 Tres Tinkle is a small forward, Stephen Thompson is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard and 6-foot-3 Derrick Bruce is a point.

Not a power forward in sight there.

Cameron Oliver is 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds. Yes, he has some range on his shot but college coaches will primarily be looking at him playing in and around the paint.

If anything, it was the earlier commitment to OSU of 6-foot-10 Drew Eubanks that would be cause for reconsideration. He's another power forward but presently slimmer than Oliver. Eubanks is also a pitcher who wants to move over to the Beaver baseball team once basketball season ends.

On paper, it seems like Oliver would fit right in when this quartet of newcomers join the Beavers next season.

I won't pretend to know the whys of Oliver's decision but keep in mind that he was a Craig Robinson signee. Bottomline, the landing of Trinkle, Thompson and Bruce doesn't seem to hold up as a reason for not moving to Corvallis.
