More on basketball analytics

The sub-head on Ian Levy's latest article tells it all: "The pursuit of statistical nirvana in sports has blinded us to the reality that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all analytics conclusion"

A snippet:

"If basketball analytics were, in fact, the search for a monolithic single truth, we would expect to see these three offenses as variations on a theme — reasonable facsimiles of that ultimate analytic conclusion. In truth, however, what connects Houston, San Antonio and Oklahoma City is an outcome — elite offensive efficiency — while the process each team relies upon to achieve that outcome is very different..."
