Cabrillo College 71, Las Positas College 66

It was a close one before Cabrillo College closed out Las Positas College 71-66 on Friday.

From the Cabrillo basketball site:

"The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 3-0 on the year with a 71-66 win tonight over Las Positas College (Livermore) in Aptos.

Cabrillo jumped on LPC early and enjoyed a 21-9 lead early. LPC would hang around and manage to hit a deep 3 pt. basket at the buzzer to conclude the first half as both teams went into the locker room. Cabrillo lead 36-27.

Cabrillo would enjoy leads of 10, 12 and 13 at different points in the half but could never put LPC away. LPC actually was up 1 (57-56) with 3:56 to play.

A Malcolm Stevenson put back and a Solomon Taylor 3 pt. basket gave the Seahawks a four pt. lead that they managed to maintain down the stretch and hold off LPC.

Solomon Taylor lead all players in scoring tonight with 20 points. Brett Reed and Malcolm Stevenson each contributed with 14 points a piece. Demetrius Rose chipped in with 9 as well.

Next, the Seahawks will travel to Redding, CA  for the Shasta College Tournament. The Seahawks first round game on Friday (Nov. 20th) will be at 8:00pm vs Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill)."

Solomon Taylor is a 6-foot freshman guard from Florida.

From Las Positas College athletics:

"Kameron Johnson scored 21 points Friday night, but it wasn't enough as Cabrillo held off a second-half comeback by LPC and defeated the Hawks 71-66 in a nonconference game in Aptos.

Johnson hit 4 of 7 three-pointers for LPC, which has now lost 3 in a row since winning its first two games of the season. McKayle Harnell scored 14 points for the Hawks, and Darius Limbrick came off the bench to knock down 4 threes and finished with 12 points. Limbrick also added 3 steals.

Cameron Moses had a nice all-around game with 11 points, 9 assists, a team-high 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Cabrillo (3-0), ranked 12th in Northern California, led 36-27 at halftime before LPC took the lead on a Limbrick three-pointer with 5 minutes remaining. Cabrillo scored primarily at the foul line in the second half, shooting 21 free throws compared to just one for LPC.

The Hawks' next game is Nov. 17 against Monterey Peninsula at 5 p.m. in Livermore."

Kameron Johnson is a 6-foot-2 freshman out of Granada High.
