Cal Maritime begins 2-0

From Cal Maritime athletics:

"The 2015-2016 season started off well for the Cal Maritime men's basketball team as the Keelhaulers defeated West Coat Baptist and Carroll College to capture the Frank Dye Classic Championship.

On Friday night, Cal Maritime came out firing on all cylinders as they overwhelmed the Eagles of West Coat Baptist with a hot shooting first half. Led by 57.6% field goal shooting, the Keelhaulers raced to a 52-26 halftime lead and cruised to 92-64 victory. Senior Zach Davis led the team with 16 points while fellow senior Clayton White played a tremendous floor game finishing with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Every Keelhauler who was in uniform played and the team showed tremendous balance finishing with 19 assists.

In Saturday's championship game, Cal Maritime took on the formidable Fighting Saints of Carroll College. Carroll plays in the Frontier Conference, which is recognized as a strong NAIA Division One conference. In fact, with nearly every significant contributor returning, the Saints received votes in the first national poll.
Fans were treated to an entertaining, high-level offensive game. In the first half, both teams shot over 60% from the field in a back and forth affair that saw the Keelhaulers head into halftime with a 50-44. Within minutes of the second half, Carroll quickly tied the score setting up a tense second stanza. Clinging to a one point lead with 5.6 seconds remaining, Clayton White calmly sank two clutch free throws. After surviving a last second three point attempt by the Saints, Cal Maritime moved to 2-0 on the season with a 79-76 victory.

Against Carroll, the Keelhaulers were led by junior Daniel Radford's 24 points off the bench.  Radford knocked down 5 of Cal Maritime's 11 triples on the night.  Adam Smith (15 points), Kameron Hoyt (13 points), and Clayton White (10 points) joined Radford in double figures. Cal Maritime outrebounded  Carroll 33-23 and finished with 23 assists on 31 made field goals."
