COM 68, Cuesta 66

Behind a tops on the team 22 points (13-14 at the line) from guard George (Heritage High) Johnson, the College of Marin bested Cuesta College 68-66 on Friday. Johnson also grabbed seven boards. Key contributors if not big number producers: Keiland (Encinal High) Callum with nine rebounds and six points on 3-5 shooting plus Ken Modica with seven and six on 2-3 marksmanship.

From the Marin IJ"The College of Marin men’s basketball team opened with a 68-66 win over Cuesta at the Allan Hancock tournament.

George Johnson led the Mariners (4-3) with 22 points and hit a pair of free throws late to put COM up 68-65 in the final seconds. Cuesta was fouled in the final seconds and intentionally missed the second free throw trailing by two, but COM secured the rebound and was able to run out the clock.

Noah Everly, who had a key block in the final 15 seconds, finished with nine points. Ty Davis added 10 points and Ken Modica had six points and 10 rebounds in the win.

COM continues in the round-robin tournament against San Diego CC on Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude the tournament on Sunday against host Allan Hancock at 5 p.m."
