Out of Leland High and playing basketball plus water polo, James Kelbert was recently named a California State Finalist for Wendy's Heisman High School Award.
State finalists (10 girls and 10 boys) compete for 2 state winners announced November 7. State winners then compete on the national level. Students are judged on outstanding academic performance, high level of competition in at least one sport, and community involvement.
In hoops, the 6-foot-2 Do-Everything averaged 19.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals as a junior.
