Kevin Niendorf on San Joaquin Delta's comeback win against Columbia on Tuesday: "Delta College's Alex Smith banked a running one-handed jumper off the glass to force overtime and the Mustangs men's basketball team was on its way to finishing off an improbable comeback.
Smith scored a game-high 24 points in the Mustangs 89-84 victory over Columbia Tuesday at Delta’s Blanchard Gymnasium. Teammate Jamel Kelly collected 14 rebounds and eight points before leaving with a chipped tooth during the second half rally.
He returned in overtime, where the Mustangs made 11 of 12 free throws to seal the game.
Losing by 20 points, 59-39, with 14 minutes remaining in the game, Smith's second of four 3-pointers started Delta's comeback. Zach Zeyen's layup with 3 minutes left tied the game at 71-71, but Columbia scored the next five points with 1:08 remaining...
