Here's the box for the Feather River College 114-79 win over the Simpson JV squad on Wednesday.
Derrick Randolph's numbers are intriguing: 34 points, 13-29 overall shooting, 8-16 on threes, no free throws, seven steals, six assists, one turnover.
Shooting 50% from long distance on that number of attempts is remarkable but not so 5-13 inside the arc. Plus, zero free throws is very interesting for the amount of time the ball is in his hands although he's just 5-foot-9 so dribble penetration into the paint might not work all that well for him offensively.
So a peek at his earlier games is required:
Randolph shot 6-19, 5-16 and 5-5 respectively going up against DeAnza.
Versus Chabot, he was 14-28, 9-20 and 2-2.
Marin: 9-23, 4-17, 2-5.
CRC: 5-16, 2-11, 9-11 and then 12-28, 6-18 and 7-7 with Sierra.
The majority of his shots up to now are threes but he's up-and-down with accuracy there as well as with his two attempts. His free throws opportunities are declining. Of course, he's probably now facing multiple defensive designs which is why seeing any talent both in person and on tape is mandatory for any sort of complete and accurate evaluation.
It looks like another year will be required academically but this is one fascinating young man to track.
