More on Malik Pope's performance

Mark Ziegler writing about San Diego State's 71-60 victory over Illinois State:

and

"It’s far too early and implicitly unfair to draw conclusions after a single game in November, but Malik Pope’s sophomore season did not quite begin the way many expected, NBA scouts included.

His line: one point, three rebounds, one assist, three turnovers and one block in 21 minutes. He shot 0 of 4, worse than in any of his 31 games last season except one, when he was also 0 of 4.

This is the guy whom ESPN’s Chad Ford rates the No. 8 prospect in the 2016 draft. NBADraft.net projects him going 28th overall next June. Draft Express has him at 31st.

The scouts will be patient. But not that patient.

Fisher’s take: “You’ve got to roll up your sleeves and go to work and compete. You can’t worry about (the last game), and I don’t think Malik does. I watched as Malik came in the locker room, went around and gave everybody five and congratulated them. That shows character, that shows a good person..."
