Dean Smith wasn't a saint -- who really is? -- and he would have been the first to say so. However, he took stands on and off the court and many of the latter went against the grain of North Carolina and U.S. society at the time.

The culture of any entity is only as strong as the emphasis and its resulting and awarded behavior. The University of North Carolina needs a bevy of positive change agents if it indeed wants to set itself apart from others.
